Life at the Shepherd Home continues to be busy and crazy. We had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed hanging out with each other. Ashley is still working at Down East Basics and going to school. She is taking her last classes this semester at MCC, and then will just be "waiting" to get into the Nursing program there. Meagan is in her 2nd semester at ASU. She switched her major to Special Education and loves it! She works a couple of part-time jobs, and got to go to New York City with some friends right before Christmas. Emily is finishing up her junior year at Mesa High and works part time at Mesa Frozen Yogurt. She will be going to New York City in March with the Mesa High Student Council. Max is enjoying his first year at Taylor Jr. High and is currently playing basketball and flag football. He is officially a teenager now and is as tall as his sisters. Zack is in 5th grade at Franklin Elem. and is also playing basketball and flag football like his brother. There is always a little (ok a lot) of competition going on between those two. The pull-up bar is getting lots of action these days! Man I love those boys! Julie has been doing in-home care for the elderly, and has officially decided to go back to school this semester to get my Nursing degree. I have a long road ahead, but need to stop talking about it and just get to work. So here goes. . . Steve keeps busy with work and coaching his boys. What a guy! We just celebrated our 21st anniversary in December. I'm so glad I asked him to Co-Ed all those years ago. I Love You so much Steve! Thanks to those of you who check in on our little family blog.

Don't fall out of your chairs, I am updating our blog! So much happens in between my posts, that it's hard for me to remember it all, especially if I didn't take a picture!! Here are a few of the exciting events at the Shepherd home since last post. We had another successful school year wrap up with Meagan graduating from Mesa High School. Ashley finished her first year at Mesa Community College and is officially on the waiting list to get into the Nursing Program there. Emily was elected to Jr. Class Secretary, so she is already busy with StuCo stuff. Max and Zack had a busy summer with camps and friends. Julie and Ashley both completed a CNA course (Certified Nursing Assistant) and are awaiting their licenses to come in the mail so they can start applying for jobs. Steve and Max survived the 50 mile hike for Scouting. Steve and Julie survived another senior trip as chaperones with Meagan and her friends. We also survived another year of Girls Camp - as 4th year hike leaders this time around. There are so many things happening around here, so thanks for not giving up on me. I love blogging, but also find many excuses not to keep up. Thanks for stopping by.

We finally used the passes my brother gave us for Christmas, for a place call Airworx. It was all trampolines. We had a blast.
Julie and Emily even got in on the action. Although, my head was pounding after a few jumps.
Max and Zack just finished a basketball season with the Jr. Jackrabbit team - 6th grade. They both had a great season. Zack is currently playing again with a team his own age. He said he is tired of always playing up with his brother, so we thought it's only fair to see how he does with kids his own age.

In March, Meagan and Emily were able to go to Washington D.C. with the Mesa High Student Council. They had a blast.

The kids refuse to sit on Santa's lap anymore!! I have a picture of them every year from the time Ashley was born. It has been a tradition of sorts to get a picture of the kids with the big guy every Christmas. They all said they were done this year, and Mom was very sad that a chapter of our family's life had come to an end. So, they agreed to take a picture with our Santa that Steve got for his birthday last year. I guess a new tradition was born!

Waiting for the Christmas Concert at Temple Square to begin. We are in the Conference Center. We had amazing seats and the concert was unforgettable. It was the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra at Temple Square and David Archuleta. It really got us all in the Christmas Spirit.

It was an amazing show! We highly recommend going if you ever get the chance.

Winter Formal

It was Winter Formal at Mesa High last Saturday 12/11/10. The girls were busy with the decorations and food for the evening. Mom even got involved making cinnamon rolls. I won't tell you how many I made, as you will think I'm crazy. It was a fun night. Emily was nominated for "Sophomore Royalty" at the dance, so she got to get a new dress for the occasion, even though she didn't have a date!! Here is Meagan in her dress:

Fall Fun

To start off with, sorry for the long gap between posts. I'm trying to stay on top of things. We have had a great few months, so the following posts will help fill you in. To start us out at the beginning of October, Steve and Julie celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary (even though it is really in December) on the island of Maui. Because my wonderful husband hates asking others to take our picture, here is one of the few of us together. Self portraits - you gotta love them. We had so much fun and can't wait to go back. Maybe we won't have to wait another 20 years this time!!!

Julie had her 20th class reunion. It was such a fun weekend. Here I am with my friends Alisa Bradshaw Leavitt, Shannon Hastings Hatch, Joy Packard Fieldsted, and Aimee Clarkson Patton. We were all color coordinated and didn't even plan it! Love these guys! Thanks for the memories!

This handsome guy turned 10. Zack is such a fun kid to have around. He loves football! It's all he talks about. He was the QB on the Tigers this year and did an amazing job. We are excited to watch him grow and mature. He is a great kid with lots of friends, who he loves to hang out with. Because he is the youngest of 5, he thinks he needs to hang out just like his older siblings do every weekend. It is so fun having him around. We love you Z!!!

Well, the long awaited day has finally come. Max turned 12. He has been waiting for this day for about 5 years now. Literally, he has wanted to be 12, so he could go to mutual, be a Boy Scout, and most importantly get an XBOX 360. He is such a good boy, and even though he is a tease and loves to make strange noises, we love him so much. He is a great friend to everyone and loves to talk. He will tell us every detail of his day (which his Mom loves!) He has an amazing sense of humor and says the funniest things. He is brutally honest and if you know Max, he probably has told you something you didn't really want to hear!!! Happy 12th Max!

Ashley is 19! I can't believe it. She is such a beautiful young woman. She makes great choices and has big plans for her future. She is a great sister and has really matured over this past 6 months since she graduated from high school. We love you Ash!!!

May Festivities at the Shepherd Home

Here are some of the happenings in May at the Shepherd home. The kids all finished up the school year strong. We have our first official Shepherd graduate - Ashley. I can't believe it. We are excited for her and her future. She plans on staying here and going to MCC. She wants to go into their Nursing program. Girls camp is over and Julie is relieved/sad to see it end. I have been the Stake Camp Director for the last 3 years. It has been a blast. I have had the best Assistants and Stake Staff to help me along the way. Thanks to all of you for your help and support. It was a 3 year calling, so my run is over. It was fun, and I hope to continue going to Girl's Camp.

We accompanied Ashley and 5 of her girlfriends to Oceanside, CA for their Senior trip. A week on the beach was a welcome break after a week at Girl's Camp. The boys are doing sports camps all summer. Meagan is doing swim team at Taylor, and all 3 girls are looking for jobs. Time flies when you are having fun. School will be here before we know it. Thanks for checking in on us. What Do You Do On Sundays?

Well lately, the Shepherd family has been trying to do things on a Sunday afternoon, that we haven't done in a while. One Sunday we put together every puzzle we could fit on our table. They were all ones the kids used to do when they were little. It was fun.

We also purchased some Play-Do. It was a blast, and much more fun now that the kids aren't mixing colors and getting it everywhere. Khodie and McKay happened to be over that Sunday. I think they thought we were a little strange, but in the end, I think they had a blast.

What a weekend! Steve and I were able to have a great time at his 20th High School Reunion. It was 20 years ago that he graduated from Gilbert High School. We enjoyed seeing lots of old friends and catching up on their lives. Wow how time flies!!!

While Steve and Julie were reminiscing about high school memories. . . Ashley and Meagan were making some of their own high school memories. It was Homecoming at Mesa High.

So our youngest Zack, is now 9. We celebrated his birthday last weekend, (it was officially on the 12th.) He is having a party tomorrow after school with some friends, and we are going to the ASU game on Saturday the 19th, all in his honor. He always says some of the funniest things. I had to share his latest with you all. He is an early riser, and always joins Mom and Dad around 5:30 am in our bed. I asked him the other morning, "Zack, why don't you sleep more?" Zack: "Sleeping is a waste of time." Mom: "What would you rather be doing, instead of sleeping?" Zack: "Playing football!" Duh Mom - I should've known. Love that kid!!!!!!

I'm feeling guilty that the month of August flew by and I did not post a single thing all month! Sorry to those of you who are curious about the goings on at the Shepherd home. We had a great trip to Utah for our 2nd annual LDSBA Convention. It was for our Creative Wrapping Paper Co. We had a great time staying with my sister and her family. School started and life is a little back to normal. Meagan turned sweet 16 on the 24th, and got her license on the 25th. Ashley is a Senior this year and is swimming for the Mesa High Swim Team. Meagan is a Junior, and keeping very busy with Student Council. Emily is a Freshman this year, at Taylor Jr. High and has lots of fun with all her friends. Max is in 5th Grade and Zack is in 3rd Grade at Franklin East Elementary. They both are playing flag football and basketball this fall. Julie is back working part time at Crossroads school. She is an aide in the Special Ed Class. Life is crazy-busy, but we wouldn't change a thing!

Summer Fun 09

We have been enjoying summer here in toasty Mesa, AZ. Here is a huge thunderhead, that was so pretty. The picture didn't do it justice.

Max and Zack participated in a fun football camp at Red Mountain High School. One day, at the end of camp, I was walking towards the boys. Zack had a huge grin on his face and said to me, "I wish it would never end!" He was in his glory.

My summer project is complete. I painted our bookshelf to match the rest of our furniture. I love how it turned out.

We (the Shepherd Girls and Ashley Clayton) enjoyed Wicked. I had seen it before, but none of the girls had. Needless to say, they LOVED it! Fun Times Indeed!!!!

I got up one morning to go to the bathroom around 4 am. This is what I came back to. Zack loves to crawl in our bed while Steve and I are in our deep sleep. I think I knew he was there, but when I came back, he had taken over my side of the bed. I had to take a picture, to prove to him, someday, that he really was a horrible bed hog!!!

Happy late birthday dear Emily...Happy late birthday to you!!! Mom's a slacker in posting stuff on here. But here are a few photos from the big day. She had a few friends come over on Friday night and celebrate with food and games. We then woke up to a chalk attack from the Harmony Park Young Women. They had sidewalk chalked our driveway, walkway, front porch, street in front of our house, and put some lovely crepe paper in the trees and bushes. She is officially 14 and loves the fact that she is no longer a Beehive. No offense to those of you that still are, but she is glad to move on. She is such a fun girl to have around. We are glad you are part of the Shepherd Family, Em. Happy late Birthday!!!

We had an eventful weekend with Scott and Julie and their kids. We stayed at the Hyatt at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale. This is Zack and Justin in their robes trying to look cool. I emphasize the word trying.

We went down to the pools after the big storm blew through on Friday night. It was so nice and we were one of very few groups that went out in the rain.

Thanks to every one for your kind words and deeds done to our family after the loss of our friend and family dog Sparkey. We were given some yummy "Sympathy Salsa" and the always famous "Condolence Cookies." Thanks guys, you know who you are. We made it through one week without him in our home. It has been pretty empty, but we are adjusting.

Sad news from the Shepherd Home. Sparkey our beloved Jack Russell Terrier, was tragically hit and killed by a car tonight. It was even more tragic, because Steve, Max, and Zack were all witnesses to the accident. They were out shooting baskets, when he escaped through the side gate. It all happened so fast. We buried him in our side yard. Zack found some sidewalk chalk and wrote on our brick wall. It was so sweet. Lots of tears were shed as we buried our friend. He truly had unconditional love for everyone. We will miss you buddy! R.I.P Sparks!!!

Lunch With Friends

It has been such a great month. I had a birthday, and I was able to get together with some friends from high school to celebrate. Thanks Kim Post-Skinner, Aimee Clarkson-Patton, Holli Wilcock-Gardner, and Alisa Bradshaw-Leavitt, for a fun lunch. It was nice to catch up on each other, and just relax!

The very next day, I was able to go out to lunch with some of the ladies who were in my Laurel class years ago! We had so much fun, no one wanted to leave. It was nice to see everyone and hear about their families and talk about old times. We are going to do it again soon! 20 years is much too long! I admit I have been a slacker as far as blogging goes. I have my excuses, but I'm sure no one really cares! So I apologize and promise to do better. Here goes. In November Steve, Max, and Ashley all turned 1 year older! In December, Steve and Julie celebrated 18 years of wedded bliss! Where has all the time gone? Happy Birthday Max. My handsome 10 year old. He is such a funny kid. He has always acted about 4 or 5 years older than he really is. His teachers have always loved Max, because he is the only one who will laugh at their jokes. He is also a friend to everyone. He is talented in so many ways. He has recently picked up the guitar. He is really good at it and even though his sisters complain, because he plays it nonstop, they are all jealous of his skills. He is good at anything he tries, and what makes us crazy is he doesn't even try. Just think if he actually worked at things - what he could do. He loves playing the Wii, and can master any game we get. He is so easy going. He loves to just chill. He does have a one track mind, meaning when he gets something in his mind, he won't let up until he gets it! He will follow me around all day until I give in or go nuts. He keeps us laughing with his impressions, voices, freakish faces, and other crazy talents he has. I am so glad to have the honor of being his Mom! We love you Max!!!

Well, the long awaited day is finally here. Zack is 8 today. He has been looking forward to this day for so long. Being the youngest child, Zack has a very different outlook on life. He has always wanted to be "Bigger than his body gives him credit for!" He could do things at 2 years old that most 6 year olds were just learning to do. Like ride a scooter or bike, throw a spiral, or eat more than you thought was possible for a boy his size! He has always loved sports - most especially football. He loves anything to do with the sport. He would rather watch the NFL Channel or ESPN before he would watch a cartoon. He will watch any football game on, even if he doesn't know who is playing. He had his first practice for flag football this Wednesday. Steve is his coach and was talking to some parents and waiting for a few more boys to arrive, when he looked behind him and saw Zack leading the boys in stretches. He than said Zack had them all running up the hills and back down to the bottom. He then looked and Zack had them all in a circle talking to them. Steve didn't ask him to do anything, Zack just took the initiative to start practice. What a guy! He cracks us up on a daily basis. He is a softy with a sensitive side too. He asked me the other day which shampoo in our shower that Steve uses. I told him which bottle and he said," I want to do everything just like Dad, because when I grow up I want to be just like him!" It has been such a honor being his Mom. He always tells me how much he loves me and I always tell him "I love him more!" His response to that is "I don't think it's possible!" I love you Zack - Happy 8th Birthday.

I am a day late, sorry Megs, but Happy 15th! We had an awesome day yesterday. For a Sunday birthday, I think Meagan had a great day. She asked that we let her sleep in, instead of the usual get up as early as possible and open presents, which is our family's tradition. So after a breakfast brunch around 10:30, she opened her gifts and then we goofed around and went to church at 1:30. We than had a wonderful dinner and we had family and friends come over for cake and ice cream. We all shared something about Meagan that we loved, and unanimously everyone loved Meagan's contagious smile and peace-making abilities!

My memories of her birth were wonderful. Although the delivery was a bit flawed,(my cervix ripped! Ouch !!) She came out smiling and hasn't quit since. She would make us laugh so hard as a toddler and she had the cutest high-pitched voice. Once she learned to talk, she never stopped either. She loved playing house and babies. She loved to re-tell the stories we would read to her. She still will tell me everything that happens in her day, (well almost everything!) She is a great friend and sister. It is evident by the numerous kids who either called, texted, or stopped by yesterday to wish her a happy birthday. We are so proud of the beautiful young woman you have become. I love you so much Megs! Love Mom!

We had the opportunity to go to the ASU Scrimmage/Meet The Players Night.

Zack was in heaven the whole time and kept saying to me," I can't believe I am actually going to get to go down on the ASU field." (That is where they met the players after the game.) The boys met Keelan Johnson (former Mesa High Jackrabbit who now is a Sun Devil). Steve was out of town, so all the kids and I went, with a few friends tagging along. We had a really fun time. Can't wait for the real season to start! Go Devils!!

Well, here goes another school year. Ashley is a Junior at Mesa High, Meagan is a Sophomore at Mesa High, Emily is an 8th Grader at Taylor Jr. High, Max is a 4th Grader and Zack is a 2nd Grader at Franklin Elementary

Our trip to Utah for the LDSBA Convention was a huge success. Our products were the hit of the show and will soon be for sale in bookstores all over the country and even one in England! We had a ton of fun, as you can see from the pictures, we met lots of neat people from all over the world, and enjoyed staying with the Wilson and McCleary families! Thanks guys!

My baby girl is a teenager! Em celebrated her 13th Birthday on Saturday. I can't believe how time has flown. Just yesterday she was a little girl who loved playing house and being the mom. She has always loved following me around and doing everything I did! She can cook anything you ask her to. She has always loved being in charge. She is an amazing person. She has tried her hand at just about everything imaginable. She has played basketball, volleyball, been on the dive and swim teams, voice lessons, violin, piano, sewing class, you name it, she has tried it. The thing about Em is, she just wants to have fun. She is a great friend and sister. She makes us all laugh and is so fun to be with. You can carry on a conversation with her about anything. She is a great student and gets straight A's. Zimmerman Family Reunion

Here are a few photos of our fun family reunion we had this past weekend. We stayed in some cabins in Brianhead Utah. The weather was beautiful, and the company was a blast. We played in some leftover snow at the top of Brianhead Peak, we boated on Panguitch Lake, we visited Cedar Breaks National Park, (beautiful, I might add), we had a fun talent show, ate, slept, played lots of pool, laughed, played the Wii, lots of Scum, celebrated Aunt Amy's 40th Birthday, and created lots of fun memories. We were all able to spend some time with Great Grandma Z who is 88 years old. She was a lot of fun. We were able to see all but 5 of our Zimmerman cousins. There are a total of 38. Our cousin Josh is on a mission, and my brother Eric and his family were not able to be there. We had a lot of fun, but were glad to finally make it home after we got a flat tire on the way home. We will truly miss all of our out of state family, and look forward to the next reunion!

Girls Weekend in California

Here are some fun photos of our Girls Getaway to California. They are pretty self explanitory, so I won't go into great detail. We tried out a couple of different beaches, Balboa 1st and than Laguna. We all voted Laguna Beach as our favorite. I know there are lots of beaches, but we will have to try them out on another trip. We did some damage at the Orange County Marketplace (Swap Meet). It was a super hot day on Saturday, so it sort of put a damper on things in the outdoor market place. Needless to say, we had a blast, people watched, laughed a ton, ate lots of yummy food, and shopped til we dropped! Oh and I added a video at the end of some dolphins that came swimming really close to shore where we were. It was pretty cool to see them in the wild. (There is no sound on it though)

Girls Camp.

Here is my one and only picture of Girls Camp. (This was on the last day, Ashley was sick, and we were all extremely tired!) I brought my camera, but because I ran around like a headless chicken, I didn't take one picture. This is off of Meagan's camera. We had a wonderful time. I read Suzanne Cummard's blog, and that pretty much summed up camp if you weren't able to be there. It was amazing. So many little miracles happened along the way. Things worked out just as we had hoped they would. The weather was a little cold the first night (22 degrees is what I heard). But we were able to see the stars every night, and that was the most beautiful thing! The girls were awesome, the leaders amazing, and the spirit was so strong there. I was so honored to be able to be a part of something so wonderful. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a success.

SWIMMING LESSONS!

Yes, if you haven't already heard, Julie is teaching Swim Lessons this Summer! My wonderful sister Amy who has taught for 22 years, convinced me to do it. I will have 4 sessions. One in May, Two in June, One in July. The lessons are 1/2 hour and they will be 2 week sessions - Monday through Thursday (8 lessons!) Please spread the word. I am starting to fill up classes. Cost is $60 per child with a $5 discount for each additional child. All classes will take place at the Shepherd House - 3108 E. A Day At The Beach

Julie got to tag along with Steve last week on a business trip to California. The closest beach was Malibu. The car we had rented was a convertible, so needless to say, we put the top down and took a drive to the beach. The weather was perfect, and the company...well the best! We had a blast. Sorry for the cheesy pictures. Steve could not believe I wanted a picture of our feet in the sand. I said I had seen some pretty cool ones, but ours didn't turn out so picturesque. Oh well, was a great memory.

Here are my first three blocks for our Quilt Group. They are Woven Ribbons, Rail Fence, and Log Cabin. I am loving learning to quilt. We make one block every month and after 9 months we will have a 9 block quilt. We have amazing women in our ward (Thanks Peggy and Stephanie and Mary Ann!) who are experts in the field. They help us rookies who need a little patience and guidance. I will make sure to update pictures as I finish the blocks.

Girls Camp!

I am so excited for Girls Camp this year. This is the 4 of us Meagan, Julie, Emily, and Ashley last year! I was called to be stake camp director this year! Let's just say I am a little overwhelmed, yet very excited at the same time. Our theme is "Dancing With The Stars." It goes along great with the YM/YW Theme "Be Steadfast and Immovable, Always Abounding in Good Works." I am thrilled to be going again, with my 3 beautiful daughters! And not to mention with about 150 or so of the best YW from the Kimball Stake! I have an amazing staff, and we are going to have a blast!!

I have to share some funny things my boys have done lately. First of all, Max (9) comes storming into the house the other day. He was out playing football. He blurts out "Mom, where is my journal?" I said "It's under the cupboard, Why?" "Well I'm going to write in it that I officially hate *& # %@ !" Name will remain anonymous. We got a huge kick out of that!!!!!

Zack (7) told us that he never wants to say the word Massachusettes, because he is afraid he will accidentally say the "S-Word"

Both of them hate to lose! ( I wonder where they get that from Steve?) So we have tears or a fight breaking out after each game of basketball, football, Playstation, etc. And I thought girls were dramatic!

Zack was hurt in his flag football game yesterday, and had to get 5 stitches! He is VERY proud of them and doesn't want to keep the Band-Aid on any more. Thanks to Uncle David for stitching him up at 8:30 in the morning. It was a true miracle that he was home and able to help us!

You and your siblings are so lucky to have him as your father. I know it's hard now, and will be forever, but he is watching out for you everyday and will always be your guardian angel. This is on our back porch when we lived in Wisconsin. It was crazy cold there! Love Steve's icicle hat!!!

Another selection for tonight is Family Trip to Grand Canyon Pre Zack days. One of my favorite places on the earth, just happens to be Steve's least favorite. (He's deathly afraid of heights!)
